Role summary:

The Northfields campus in Labourdonnais is situated on owned freehold property and incorporates numerous subject classrooms, dedicated science labs, computer suites, art studios, a design and Special Education Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) support rooms. Northfields offers internationally recognised educational programmes and qualifications for Montessori, Cambridge, and International Baccalaureate. The curriculum progression in the school begins with Montessori Pre-Nursery, followed by either the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at NIPS or the Montessori Programme at NIMS. Students from both Primary Schools may progress to Secondary School at NIHS, where they follow the 5-year IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Years 7-11, culminating with the Cambridge IGCSE examination at the end of Year 11. Students in Sixth Form then follow the 2-year IB Diploma Programme (DP).
Apart from being an authorised IB World School, the quality of Northfields is further bolstered through the school’s accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS) and memberships with the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the Association of Internationals Schools in Arica (AISA). Northfields is registered and licensed in Mauritius with the Ministry of Gender Equality & Welfare for our Pre-Nursery, with the Early Childhood Care and Education Authority (ECCEA) and the Ministry of education and Human Resources for both Primary Schools and the Private Secondary Education Authority (PSEA) for our Secondary School.
The Children House Teacher should have a genuine commitment to child initiated and active learning, putting children first and ensuring that they challenged as individuals. This key role involves planning, teaching and class management to achieve progression of learning. The successful candidate will be instrumental in preparing an environment meant to facilitate children's independence and learning objectives.
Key responsibilities:
Planning, Teaching and Class Management:
Plan and deliver lessons with clear objectives and assessments.
Set challenging tasks to maintain interest and build on prior attainment.
Cater to individual student needs and maintain lesson structure, pace and motivation.
Use diverse teaching methods, including questioning, resource selection and study skill development.
Ensure effective use of time, assessments and school policies on discipline, behavior and homework.
Contribute to curriculum development with clear targets and success criteria.
Pastoral Duties:
Act as Class Tutor, supporting the progress and well-being of students.
Register attendance, encourage participation and address individual student concerns.
Prepare reports, action plans and communicate with staff about student needs.
Professional Requirements:
Understand professional responsibilities and operate within school policies.
Maintain subject expertise and uphold high standards of conduct.
Work collaboratively with staff and contribute to school activities, meetings and events.
Engage with parents and the learning community while pursuing personal professional development.
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant subject area or B.Ed. qualification with Early Childhood Teacher training for 3 to 6 years old.
School Certificate/ O level or a certificate of equivalence.
Higher School Certificate/ A level or a certificate of equivalence.
Minimum of 2–5 years of teaching experience in primary education.
Experience in using ICT to enhance teaching and learning.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
AMI qualified
Previous experience in an international school setting.
